The Borg is a part synthetic life form that originates from the Delta Quadrant. Their "capital" is called Unimatrix One
and is a unicomplex situated far into the Delta quadrant. The Borg have a technology that
is far more advanced than the Federations. According to
the Borg Queen the Borg themselves have once been organic creatures like the Humans. Over the time they
evolved into a part synthetic life form. The Queen calls her organic ancestors
flawed and week. How this evolution came to start is not known but it has been going on for thousands of
generations.
They reproduce through assimilating and
turning members of other species into drones . To gain complete control over the drones
the collective implant a neuro transceiver into every
drone they assimilate. This implant forces the drones to connect to the Hive mind. All
drones are thus linked to each other through this collective consciousness. The Borg consists of approximately
fifty trillions of aliens,
captured and denied of their freedom. Because of their link to the Hive mind they can hear each others
thoughts and communicate at any time. Drones describe the Hive mind as thousands of voices, speaking softly at all times.
The drones in the collective are not
individuals, the collective acts as one, they have complete unity and work together to accomplish their goals.
This is not voluntary, the drones are unable to think as individuals and are only
aware of the collective. The collective is controlled by the Borg Queen that can
hear and govern every single drone in the whole collective, through the Hive Mind .
The Borg's main objective is perfection. To reach this objective they
assimilate other species. When an individual is assimilated,
all its knowledge, skills and distinctiveness are added to the Borg collective. So, the more individuals
and civilizations they assimilate, the closer they come to perfection. The Borg are not driven by political
motives or wealth as many other species are. They only want new technology and knowledge to enhance their
own perfection. They also need new drones to strengthen
the collective’s ability to conquer more civilizations. They are without mercy, beyond redemption
and beyond reason.
The Borg do not view the assimilation of other species as a brutal method
of accomplishing their purposes. In their way of thinking they only raise the quality of life for the
species they assimilate . The Queen seem to
understand that other species desire to be individuals but she has no sympathy for them. The Borg is convinced that death
and freedom of choice are irrelevant and thus in their opinion they
only bring the species closer to perfection. The Borg has
no feelings and do not feel empathy for anyone.
